Okesa Smith and Reginald Cooper were named Interim Head Football Coaches at Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Okesa Smith is in his second season as coach at Saint Augustine’s University (SAU). This is also his first year as defensive coordinator at SAU.
Smith has over 10 years of coaching experience on the defensive side of the football. Previously, Smith was an assistant coach at Heritage (N.C.) High School from 2016 to 2018 where he worked with the defensive backs. He also was the defensive coordinator at Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) High School from 2011 to 2016 and an assistant coach at Tallwood (Va.) High School from 2005 to 2011 where he coached running backs, receivers and defensive backs. Smith coached nine DI recruits, one DII recruit and three DIII recruits at Tallwood.
A two-year letterwinner at Virginia Tech, Smith was a cornerback, free safety and special teams player for the Hokies. He graduated at Virginia Tech with an English degree in 2011.
