Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 12) – CIAA kills leader Shakera Hall (Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados) registered a match-high 17 kills and seven digs for Saint Augustine's University in a 3-0 CIAA volleyball loss to Shaw University before a lively, capacity crowd at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday. The scores were 17-25, 15-25 and 28-30.
Mechelle Moss (Fr./Nassau, Bahamas) added five kills, four assists and 10 digs, and Taylor Irving (Fr./Litchfield, AZ) distributed 21 assists to go with four kills and eight digs for the Lady Falcons. Zoey Isom (Jr./Phoenix, AZ) recorded 15 digs and Marley Parker (Sr./Langley, British Columbia) added seven digs.
The Lady Falcons played valiantly in the third set, rallying from a 22-16 deficit to take a 25-24 lead. They were one point away from winning the set twice – at 25-24 and 26-25 – before losing by two points.
Kelly Murphy had 10 kills and nine digs, and Saraya Klink added nine kills, three solo blocks and three blocking assists for the Lady Bears (4-1 Southern Division, 18-3 overall). Amari Fletcher contributed eight kills for the visitors.
Next up for the Lady Falcons is Johnson C. Smith University in an important home match at Emery Gymnasium on Monday, Oct. 16. The Lady Falcons (1-4 Southern Division, 4-7 overall), who are one game behind the fourth place Golden Bulls, need a win to remain in contention for a CIAA Tournament berth. The top four Southern Division teams advance to the league tourney, which will be held Nov. 17-19 in Ettrick, Va. The contest is designated as a Dig Pink Match to raise awareness about breast cancer.
