Miller Gains 138 Yards For SAU In Raleigh Classic Loss To Shaw

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 3) – Jeremiah Miller (Jr./Miami, FL) rushed for 138 yards for Saint Augustine's University in a 27-10 football loss to Shaw University in the Raleigh Classic on Saturday at the George Williams Athletic Complex.

The rushing total was a season-high for the Falcons' running back, who gained over 100 yards against the Bears for the second straight year. Last season, Miller picked up 142 yards and one touchdown in a 31-14 win.

Miller provided much of the offense for the Falcons. The defense slowed down the Bears, but two costly interceptions in the fourth quarter led to 14 Shaw points in the loss.

Darryl "D.J." Johnson (Sr./Richmond, VA), making his first start since Sept. 8, connected with Lenwood Joyner (Sr./Miami, FL) on a five-yard touchdown pass for a 7-3 Falcons' lead in the second quarter. Sean Smith (Sr./Valdosta, GA) made the extra point.

Smith added a 25-yard field goal for a 10-3 lead in the third quarter. The margin was 10-6 through three quarters, but the Bears outscored the Falcons 21-0 in the fourth quarter for the final score.

Defensive back Curtis Hardy (Jr./Washington, DC) collected a team-high eight tackles, including one of three sacks for the Falcons. Defensive lineman Tyler Trexler (So./Chesapeake, VA) totaled six tackles including two for loss and Sidney Lawson (Sr./Charlotte, NC) intercepted a pass. Lawson averaged nearly 30 yards on three kick returns.

Keon Marsh completed 15 of 27 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Bears. Daniel Bender caught nine passes for 179 yards and linebacker Devon Hunt registered 17 tackles.

The Falcons finished the season 2-4 in the CIAA Southern Division and 2-7 overall. The Bears upped their record to 4-2 in the Southern Division and 5-4 overall.
