RALEIGH, N.C. (April 5) – After an 18-day break, Saint Augustine's University resumes softball play against Johnson C. Smith University at Biddleville Park in Charlotte, N.C., in its CIAA Southern Division opener on Friday, April 6. The doubleheader, set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., was moved from Saturday, April 7, due to expected inclement weather.
Led by their high-powered hitting, the Lady Falcons are tied for the best conference mark (4-2) in the Southern Division. Jasmine Rios (Sr./Greensboro, NC) leads all NCAA Division II batters in triples per game and Marley Parker (Sr./Langley, British Columbia) ranks seventh in the category.
Makayla August (So./Palm Springs, CA) ranks fifth nationally in doubles per game and Mechelle Moss (Fr./Nassau, Bahamas) ranks 33rd in triples per game for the Lady Falcons, who leads all Division II teams in triples per game. Akera McPhaul (Sr./Greensboro, NC) ranks fifth in the CIAA in batting average (.424).
August is tied for fourth in the CIAA in pitching wins (5). She ranks fifth in the conference in earned run average (4.15) for the Lady Falcons (7-7 overall).
Tia Greene and Dajjaa Williams are the top hitters for the Golden Bulls (3-3 CIAA, 5-11 overall). Both players bat .389, and Sanae Nakoa leads the team in RBIs (16).
