HIGH POINT, N.C. (Oct. 19) –  Saint Augustine's University (SAU) hung tough early, but fell to Winston-Salem State University 31-10 in a CIAA football game at A.J. Simeon Stadium on Saturday. The contest was designated as the Furniture City Gridiron Classic.

The Falcons fell behind 14-0 early, but climbed back in the game on a spectacular catch by Aakiel Greer (Jr./Kosciusko, MS) from Jalen Jones (Sr./Baltimore, MD) for a one-yard touchdown score. Greer snagged the pass over a Rams defensive back in the right corner pylon of the end zone.

Andre Labat (Fr./Miami, FL) added the extra point to cut the Rams' lead to 14-7 in the first quarter.

The touchdown pulled the Falcons within striking distance of the Rams, but one play in the second quarter changed the momentum of the contest. Trailing 21-7, the Falcons completed a long pass to the Rams' 1 but fumbled after the catch, which the Rams recovered in the end zone for a touchback.

On the ensuing drive, the Rams added a field goal to go up 24-7 at halftime.

Labat nailed a 40-yard field goal on the opening drive of the second half. The Rams tacked on a touchdown in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

Jones completed 8 of 14 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown and added a team-high 39 yards on the ground for the Falcons (1-3 CIAA Southern Division, 1-6 overall). Defensive back Booker Peake (Fr./Goose Creek, SC) led SAU with seven tackles.

Quarderman Sloan and Farrell Murchinson both rushed for over 100 yards for the Rams (2-2 CIAA Southern Division, 3-4 overall). Sloan led the way with 150 yards and one touchdown on 17 rushes and Murchinson gained 134 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. Dominique Graves was 9 of 13 for 138 yards and one interception, which was picked off by Roy Garris (Sr./Raleigh, NC) of SAU.

The Falcons are on the road for the second straight weekend when they face Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, N.C., on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
