CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 30) - Quarterback Christopher Perkins (Fr./Spring Lake, NC) came off the bench to score two touchdowns for Saint Augustine's University in a 34-13 CIAA football loss to Johnson C. Smith at the Irwin Belk Complex on Saturday.
The Southern Division contest was televised nationally on Aspire TV.
Perkins entered the game late in the second quarter and directed the Falcons on a seven-play, 65-yard drive capped by his 10-yard scoring run. Chase Kiefer (Fr./Jacksonville, NC) booted the extra point to pull the Falcons within 14-7 at halftime.
The elusive Perkins added another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 14-yard run for the final score.
Defensively, linebacker Joseph Harris (Jr./Jacksonville, FL) led the Falcons with a game-high 13 tackles. Defensive back Justin Humphries (Fr./Greenville, NC) added nine tackles.
For Johnson C. Smith (1-5 CIAA, 1-8 overall), Antonio Wallace threw four touchdown passes, including three to Reggie Bryant.
The Falcons (0-6 CIAA, 0-7 overall) conclude the 2021 season next Saturday (Nov. 6) against crosstown rival Shaw in the Raleigh Classic at the George Williams Athletic Complex. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
