RALEIGH, N.C. (March 7) – Saint Augustine's University exploded with a hot offense to defeat Morris College 25-0 and 30-7 in their dominant home opener at Oakwood Park on Tuesday.
The Lady Falcons pounded out 26 hits, 36 RBIs and an astounding 9 inside-the-park home runs in two games to win their first games of the season.
Laurel Rolle (So./Nassau, Bahamas) was the winning pitcher of the first game after posting seven strikeouts, two walks in 5 innings to earn her first career shutout and no-hitter as a starter.
Victoria Spoon (Jr./Holland Patent, NY) was 6-for-11 at the plate with a eight RBIs, eight runs scored, and a team-leading three inside-the-park home runs.
Raevyn Thomas (Fr./Detroit, MI) also led the Lady Falcons with 9 RBIs. She was 3-for-8 with five runs scored, and an inside-the-park grand slam.
Aggie Bennet (Jr./Nine Mile Falls, WA) was 5-7 at the plate with six runs scored, four RBIs, two inside-the-park home runs, two doubles, and a team-leading six stolen bases.
Victoria De La Cruz (So./Whittier, CA) was 4-for-8 with three RBIs and eight runs scored, one stolen base and an inside-the-park home run while also serving as the winning pitcher of the second game with a team-leading eight strikeouts in 5 innings.
For Morris College, L. Washington was 2-for-6 at the plate with one double, four RBIs. The Lady Hornets tallied 3 hits in two games.
The sweep snaps a four game losing streak for the Lady Falcons. Their next doubleheader is Friday, March 10th, vs. Vorhees College in another home non-conference doubleheader at Oakwood Park. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
