Herb Thames in his second season as assistant football coach at Saint Augustine's University (SAU). He is the co-offensive coordinator and offensive analyst for the Falcons.
Thames previously coached at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, N.C., for eight years. He served as linebacker coach on the varsity team for five years and defensive coordinator on the jayvee team for three years.
An educator for 31 years, Thames is currently employed by the Wake County Public School System. He has been a Healthful Living teacher, athletic coach and ISS/ALC coordinator at West Cary Middle School for 28 years. Thames still serves as Head Basketball Coach at West Cary.
Before starting an education career, Thames graduated from Elizabeth City State University with a degree in Health and Physical Education. He graduated Cum Laude.
Thames attended Elizabeth City State University after graduating from Manning High School in Manning S.C. He was born in Boston, Mass.
Thames is a member of The Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. He is married to his lovely wife Charlene, and they have two sons, Lawrence and Teyon.
Lawrence is the defensive line coach and Teyon is the offensive coordinator for SAU.
