RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 25, 2020) – Kevin Moroney is the new Director of Strength and Conditioning at Saint Augustine’s University (SAU).

"Coach Moroney brings a wealth of knowledge in working with several sports on the collegiate level,” said David Bowser, the SAU Interim Athletic Director/Head Football Coach. “This is very important because our main focus during the search was to find a Director of Strength and Conditioning that will enhance the entire department’s athletic teams."

A rising star in the profession, Moroney spent the past two years as assistant strength and conditioning coach for the University of Minnesota Duluth in track and field, cross country, women’s soccer and women’s tennis. He also assisted with the men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and football programs.

During his time at Division II Minnesota Duluth, Moroney helped produced the women’s 60 meter hurdles national champion and the 100 meter hurdles bronze medalist in 2019.

Moroney is quickly adjusting to his new position at SAU.

“Throughout my first week on campus, I can say with 100% certainty that I have been treated like family by every single Saint Augustine University administrator, coach, student-athlete, and staff member,” Moroney said. “The people are what make a university special, so I could not be more humbled and honored to work for such a historic institution like SAU where I am treated like family every day.”

Before arriving at Minnesota Duluth, Moroney worked one year as a graduate assistant at Division I Northern Arizona University. He oversaw the strength and conditioning programs for the track & field jumpers and the women’s tennis team in addition to helping train the women’s soccer, basketball and football teams.

Moroney was a strength and conditioning intern on the Division I level his first two years. In 2015, he started his career at the University of Akron, where he trained eight specialists and the underclassmen on the football team.

A year later, Moroney was at the University of South Carolina, where he was responsible for spotting groups of at least two football players during a training session. He also assisted with the baseball and track and field programs.

"Coach Moroney is very creative and resourceful in finding ways to maximize the present facilities available, but he has a vision for improving our athletic programs by seeking ways to find more resources to better prepare our student-athletes for competition and development,” Bowser said.

A Cleveland, Ohio, native, Moroney has certifications from USA Weightlifting, the National Strength & Conditioning Association and the American Heart Association. He is a Licensed Medical Massage Therapist.

He graduated from Miami (Ohio) University in 2014 with bachelor’s degrees in Kinesiology and Sports Studies. Moroney earned his master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Northern Arizona University in 2018.?
