Wood’s One-Hitter Helps Falcons Remain Unbeaten In CIAA

BARCO, N.C. – Ryan Wood (So./Chester, Va.) hurled a one-hitter to lift Saint Augustine's College over host Elizabeth City State University 10-1 in the first game of a CIAA baseball doubleheader Sunday at Elliott Field.

The Falcons (11-3 overall, 6-0 CIAA) also won the second game 9-8 against the Vikings (4-4, 1-2 CIAA) to stay undefeated in the CIAA. They host Millersville, Pa., Monday in a non-conference twinbill at USA Baseball Complex starting at 1 p.m.

Wood, last season's CIAA rookie of the year, struck out eight batters in a complete seven-inning game to raise his record to 3-0. Wayne Lewis (So./Charlotte, N.C.) and Josh Bishop (Jr./Richmond, Va.) drove in two runs apiece to lead the Falcons in the first game.

The second game wasn't decided until Joe Pierce (Jr./Wetumpka, Ala.) hit a two-run double in top of the six inning to give the Falcons a 9-7 lead. Chris Vette (Jr./Hampton, Va.) pitched 4.2 innings in relief for his first victory.
