Falcons Reach CIAA Baseball Finals For Third Straight Year

PETERSBURG, Va. ­­– Alex DiDio hurled a five-hitter as top-seed Saint Augustine's College thumped No. 2 seed Chowan University 10-1 Friday at Colbert Field on Virginia State University's campus to advance to the finals of the 2010 CIAA Baseball Championships for the third consecutive season.

 

The Falcons (34-19 overall) will face No. 3 seed Virginia State in the finals Saturday of the double-elimination tournament at 1 p.m. Virginia State will be seeking their fourth straight CIAA championship after ousting Chowan 10-4 in the elimination bracket Thursday. The Falcons, unbeaten in the tournament, need only one victory to claim the title. The Trojans, having already suffered one loss in the tournament, needs to win twice on its homefield to capture the crown. A second game, if necessary, will start at 4 p.m.

 
The Falcons, seeking their first CIAA championship since 1999, will meet the Trojans in the finals for the third time in a row. The Trojans beat the Falcons the last two years.
