Falcons Split Baseball Doubleheader Against Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Saint Augustine's College scored five runs in the eighth inning to top Chowan University 16-11 in the first game of a CIAA baseball doubleheader Saturday at Hawkins Field.

 

In the second game, the Hawks (16-15-1, 9-5 CIAA) won 10-4 to hand the Falcons (28-13, 13-1 CIAA) their first CIAA loss. The Falcons remain first in the CIAA standings.

 

In game one, the Hawks scored five runs including a two-run single by Zack Caito and an RBI single by Nate Stanton to send the contest to extra innings at 11-11. The Falcons responded with a big eighth inning including two-run singles by Joe Pierce (Jr./Wetumpka, Ala.) and Rashad Ingram (Jr./Savannah, Ga.) to get the victory.

 

Ingram led the Falcons with 4-for-5 hitting including a home run, double and four RBIs. Pierce went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Wayne Lewis (So./Charlotte, N.C.) went 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs. Josh Bishop (Jr./Richmond, Va.) went 1-for-4 with three RBIs for the Falcons, who cranked out 15 hits. Pierce picked up the win in one and two-third innings in relief.

 

Caito and Stanton both had two RBIs for the Hawks, who had 14 hits. Tyler Chelenza was the losing pitcher.

 

In the second game, the Hawks opened a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Falcons finally scored in the fifth inning but could not overcome the huge deficit.

 

Chris Rogers (Fr./Chicago, Ill.) led the Falcons on 2-for-4 hitting with two RBIs. Bishop went 3-for-4 with one RBI and Ingram was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Falcons, who had 10 hits. Adam Capps was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs for the Hawks, who amassed 13 hits. Ryan Bradshaw gained the pitching win and Alex Didio was the losing pitcher.

 

The Falcons host Virginia State on Easter Sunday at USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C. The first game starts at 1 p.m.
