CARY, N.C. – Saint Augustine's College let early leads slip away in losing both games of a baseball doubleheader to East Stroudsburg on Saturday at USA Baseball Complex. The final scores were 7-2 in the first game and 4-3 in the second game.
In the first game, the Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Senior shortstop Rashad Ingram (Savannah, Ga.) stole three bases including home plate on a double steal for the first run. Senior right fielder Mike Wallace (Powhatan, Va.) hit an RBI groundout which scored senior center fielder Joe Pierce (Wetumpka, Ala.).
The lead held until the third inning when the Warriors scored three runs. They added two runs apiece in the sixth and seventh innings to wrap up the win. Ingram batted 2-for-3 with one run, a double and four stolen bases for the Falcons, who had five hits and five errors. The Warriors also had five errors but tallied 12 hits.
In game two, Wallace tripled to left center field and scored on a groundout RBI by sophomore designated hitter Jeremy Wilkins (Smithfield, N.C.) in the second inning. The Falcons added two more runs in the third inning for a 3-0 lead. Pierce singled to score Ingram and sophomore first baseman David Nelson (Richton Park, Ill.) doubled to right center field to score Pierce.
The Warriors rallied with two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings for the victory. Pierce, Nelson and Wilkins each hit an RBI for the Falcons. Sophomore pitcher Alex Didio (Riverdale, Ga.) scattered five hits in seven innings for the loss. Both teams play again Sunday in a nine-inning game at USA Baseball Complex starting at 1 p.m.
