Falcons Lose 12-7 To Claflin

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - Senior shortstop Rashad Ingram (Savannah, Ga.) led Saint Augustine's College with two RBIs and two runs, but the Falcons dropped a 12-7 decision Wednesday to Claflin in a non-conference baseball game at Mirmow Field. The defeat snapped a four-game win streak for the Falcons, who are 19-12 overall.

The Falcons fell behind early against Claflin which forced them to play catch-up in the nine-inning contest. Spurred by a four-run second inning, Claflin (10-8 overall) led 9-2 in the sixth. Claflin tacked on another run in the seventh before the Falcons went on a mini-rally.

The Falcons climbed back in the game at 10-6 with four runs in the eighth inning. Ingram's two-run single scored David Nelson (Richton Park, Ill.) and Chris Rogers (Chicago, Ill.), and Ingram later scored. Wayne Lewis (Charlotte, N.C.) scored the other run in the inning for the Falcons, the defending CIAA champions. Claflin widened its lead with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, and then stopped the Falcons in their final at-bat.

Ingram was 2-for-4 with a double at the plate while Joe Pierce (Wetumpka, Ala.) was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two doubles for the Falcons. Lewis was 1-for-3 with one RBI, two runs scored and a double while Nelson was 2-for-4 with one run. The Falcons tallied seven hits while Claflin had 15 hits and six errors.

The Falcons play their fourth opponent and seventh game in five days Thursday when they visit Benedict in Columbia, S.C. The first contest starts at 1 p.m.
