Falcons Struggle In Doubleheader Losses To Chowan

CARY, N.C. - Defending CIAA champion Saint Augustine's College was on the losing end of two baseball games against Chowan Tuesday in a meeting between top league contenders at USA Baseball Complex. The Falcons lost 12-0 in the first game and 9-1 in the second game.

The Falcons (15-11 overall, 12-2 CIAA) suffered their first conference losses this season. They combined for one run and 14 hits combined in two games. The Hawks (9-9 overall, 6-0 CIAA) finished with 20 combined hits including 11 in the first game. Both teams were undefeated in league play entering the doubleheader.

The Hawks scored seven runs in the sixth inning to win the first game convincingly. The defeat was the second-worst for the Falcons this season. No player had more than one hit for the Falcons, who totaled six hits overall while allowing 11.

The Falcons fared a little better in the second game. Senior shortstop Rashad Ingram (Savannah, Ga.) and senior right fielder Mike Wallace (Powhatan, Va.) combined for four of the Falcons' eight hits. Wallace scored the Falcons' only run off a first-inning single by senior left fielder Wayne Lewis (Charlotte, N.C.). The Hawks scored five runs in the second inning for a 7-1 lead.

The Falcons step out of conference Thursday for a doubleheader against Paine College at USA Baseball Complex at 1 p.m. They face Chowan again in Murfreesboro, N.C., on April 4.
