ATLANTA, Ga. - Saint Augustine's College cranked out 36 hits in two games to sweep Clark Atlanta 11-7 and 26-8 Friday (Feb. 3) in a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Bill Evans Field.

Ariel Polanco (Jr./Harlem, N.Y.) continued his torrid hitting in the doubleheader. He was 5-for-7 with a home run, triple, three RBIs and four runs scored. In five games, Polanco is batting .471 with eight hits and nine RBIs, both team highs.

Jeremy Wilkins is second on the team with seven RBIs, and he collected all of them in the second game. He was 2-for-6 but both hits were home runs in a nine-run fifth inning including a grand slam.

Newcomer Darian Hardaway was also productive at the plate. He was 5-for-9 with six RBIs, a double and five runs scored.
The Falcons pounded out 16 hits in the first game with Polanco, Hardaway and David Nelson each driving in two runs. Hardaway and Sterling James both hit RBI doubles in a five-run third inning as the Falcons (3-2 overall) shot out to a 6-0 lead.

Clark Atlanta (0-2) scored in the bottom of the third, but the Falcons added three more runs in the fourth. Hardaway and Nelson both singled to score runs, and Pat Hall collected an RBI double. In the top of the fifth inning, Polanco drilled a two-run homer for an 11-3 lead.

Clark Atlanta scored in the later innings but never threatened the Falcons. Steve Hamilton of the Falcons gained the win.
In the second game, the Falcons continued to spray the ball all over the field. They amassed 20 hits as six players had two or more RBIs including Wilkins (7), Hardaway (4), Hall (4), Alex Howard (2) Anthony Holloway (2) and Wayne Lewis (2). Both Hardaway and Hatchell led the Falcons with 3-for-5 hitting, and they each scored three runs.

Both Hardaway and Howard each hit two-run singles as the Falcons jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Falcons scored nine more runs in the second inning, highlighted by Hatchell's three-run homer and Lewis' two-run double.

The score was 25-2 after the Falcons scored nine more runs in the fifth inning. Wilkins was the catalyst as he hit a two-run homer and a grand slam home run in the same inning. Wilkins' hitting helped him earn the win as the starting pitcher. He pitched a complete game, striking out eight batters.

The Falcons will play their sixth and seventh game in four days when they take on Morehouse College Saturday (Feb. 4) in Atlanta, Ga. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
