Falcons End Road Trip WIth Sweep of Morehouse

ATLANTA, Ga. – Saint Augustine's College concluded its baseball road trip Saturday (Feb. 4) with 12-9 and 13-2 victories over Morehouse College at Perkerson Park.
 
The wins raised the Falcons' record to 5-2 overall. It was the fifth consecutive victory for the Falcons, who played seven contests in four days.
 
The Falcons continued their hot hitting against Tigers. Patrick Hall (Jr./Virginia Beach, Va.) was 2-for-4 with five RBIs combined in both games including a grand slam in the second contest. Ariel Polanco (Jr./Harlem, N.Y.) was 4-for-8 with four RBIs including a grand slam while Ben Hatchell (Soph./Matthews, N.C.) and Darien Hardaway (Jr./Atlanta, Ga.) both drove in four runs.
 
Hall, Hatchell and Nelson carried the Falcons in the first contest. Hall had four RBIs, Nelson three RBIs and Hatchell two RBIs.
 
The first game was a slugfest with both teams combining for 21 hits. The Falcons fell behind 7-0 through the second inning but tied the score in the middle innings. In the fourth inning, Hatchell and Nelson each had an RBI and they both scored on an error to bring the Falcons within three runs. The Falcons knotted the score at 7-7 in the fifth inning on Hatchell's RBI single and Nelson's two-run homer.
 
The Falcons exploded for five runs in the seventh inning, which decided the game. Alex Howard (Sr./Wilson, N.C.) led off the inning with a homer and Hall smacked a grand slam home run. The Falcons gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh but took the win.
 
John Hailey (Jr./Rockingham, N.C.) gained the win in relief. Entering in the second inning, Hailey struck out six batters while allowing two runs.
 
In the second game, Alex Edwards (Soph./Chicago, Ill.) stymied the Tigers (0-2), holding the home team to two runs on six hits in a complete game. He recorded seven strikeouts in seven innings.
 
Both Polanco and Hardaway led the Falcons in the second game. Both players each had four RBIs.
 
Hatchell hit a two-run single for a 2-0 Falcons' lead in the first inning. The Falcons then exploded for eight runs in the third inning to stretch the margin to 10-0.
 
Polanco smacked a grand slam homer to spark the rally in the third. It was the second grand slam by a Falcon in the doubleheader and the third in a week. Joshua Easter (Soph./Chicago, Ill.), Hardaway, Anthony Holloway (Sr./New Bern, N.C.) and Hall each added an RBI in the inning.
 
Morehouse scored two runs in the fifth inning, but the Falcons finished off the Tigers with three runs in the sixth, courtesy of Hardaway's three RBI homer.
 
The Falcons host their home opener Saturday against East Stroudsburg University in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The twinbill will be played at USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C.
