MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – Saint Augustine's College lost to Winston-Salem State in a CIAA baseball doubleheader on Sunday, March 18, 2012 for the second consecutive day. The scores were 6-3 in the first game and 8-3 in the second game at Rich Field.
Daveed Todd (Jr./Chicago, Ill.) went 2-for-3 in the first game for the Falcons, who had four hits.
Wayne Lewis (Sr./Charlotte, N.C.) and
Sterling James (Fr./New Castle, Del.) each added a hit.
The Falcons scored twice in the third inning to close within 3-2.
Pat Hall (Jr./Virginia Beach, Va.) hit an RBI groundout and Todd scored on a passed ball.
The Falcons tied the score at 3-3 in the fourth inning when Steve Hamilton (Jr./Chicago, Ill.) scored on an error. The Rams re-took the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth and added two runs in the sixth to get the win.
James went 3-for-3 with an RBI and
David Nelson (Jr./Richton Park, Ill.) went 2-for-3 in the second game for the Falcons, who totaled nine hits.
Calvin Butcher (Soph./New Castle, Del.),
Jeremy Wilkins (Jr./Smithfield, N.C.), Lewis and Todd each added a hit.
The Rams opened a 6-0 lead in the second game before the Falcons scored in the sixth on Todd's one-run double. The Rams scored two more runs in the sixth and the Falcons finished the scoring with two runs in the seventh. Hamilton hit an RBI groundout and James added an RBI double.
Alex Di Dio (Jr./Newport News, Va.) was the losing pitcher for the Falcons in the first game.
John Sweeney (Jr./Lumberton, N.C.) picked up the loss in the second contest.
The Falcons fell to 8-23 overall and 2-5 in the CIAA with the losses. The Rams improved to 20-14 and 8-2 in the conference. The four-game series over the weekend were rematches of last year's CIAA Championship finals between both teams.
