ATLANTA, Ga. – Saint Augustine's University took two of three baseball games over the weekend in Atlanta, Ga.

The Falcons defeated Morehouse College 25-2 in their season opener on Friday, Feb. 2, 2012. The second game was canceled due to darkness. On Saturday, Feb. 3, 2013, the Falcons downed Clark Atlanta University 16-2 in the first game and lost 10-1 in the second game.

Against Morehouse, senior first baseman Daveed Todd (Chicago, Ill.) and freshman third baseman William Thomas (Yorktown, Va.) paced the Falcons with four RBIs each. Thomas smacked a grand slam home run and Todd blasted a three-run homer to highlight a 17-run second inning which put Morehouse away.

Freshman third baseman Desmond Cheek (Asheboro, N.C.), senior shortstop Ariel Polanco (Harlem, N.Y.) and senior designated hitter Jeremy Wilkins (Smithfield, N.C.) both added two RBIs in the win for the Falcons, who pounded out 15 hits. Wilkins also scored three runs and Polanco added two runs. Sophomore Brock Holmes (Brunswick, N.C.) earned the win in two innings of work, striking out three and allowing no runs. Senior Clarence Ganus (Whiteville, N.C.) pitched the final five innings, fanning six and giving up two runs.

The Falcons earned their second win on Saturday by scoring seven runs in the sixth inning against Clark Atlanta. Junior catcher Clarence Peace (Creedmoor, N.C.) led the Falcons with three RBIs on 3-for-4 hitting including two doubles. Thomas added two RBIs while freshman shortstop Jordan Wright (Hampton, Va.) and freshman third baseman Carey Cheek (Baltimore, Md.) each added three runs. Junior centerfielder Jamie Scott (Hampton, Va.), freshman centerfielder Jason Baytop (Laurel, Md.) and Wilkins each added two runs for the Falcons, who had 13 hits.

Senior John Hailey (Rockingham, N.C.) recorded 16 strikeouts in a complete game for his first win of the season. He gave up five hits and two runs.

In the second game against Clark Atlanta, senior designated hitter Pat Hall (Virginia Beach, Va.) drove in the Falcons' only run with a solo homer in the loss. The Falcons collected six hits in the game.

The Falcons play again on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Coker College in a nine-inning game in Hartsville, S.C. The contest begins at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available on www.saintaugfalcons.com.
