Polanco, Baytop Spark Falcons Past Claflin

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Ariel Polanco (Sr./Harlem, N.Y.) and Jason Baytop (Fr./Manchester, Md.) led a hitting explosion for Saint Augustine's University in a baseball sweep of host Claflin University at Mirmow Field on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. The Falcons (18-8 overall) won 15-1 in the first game and 8-5 in the second game for their seventh victory in a row including their fourth in two days.

Polanco was 7-for-7 combined including a double and triple with five RBIs and six runs. Baytop was 6-for-8 with two RBIs and four runs scored. They combined for almost half (13) of the Falcons' 28 hits.

Bobby Delly (Fr./Sumter, S.C.) and Ricky Martin (Jr./Raleigh, N.C.) each added four hits with Delly driving in three runs and scoring four. The trio of Jeremy Wilkins (Sr./Smithfield, N.C.), Pat Hall (Sr./Virginia Beach, Va.) and Daveed Todd (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) combined for six hits but it led to nine RBIs including four by Todd. Hall homered and scored three runs while Martin scored three runs. Delly and Todd each tripled as the Falcons had seven extra base hits.

Polanco was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored in the first game to spark the rout. His two-run triple in the fourth inning helped the Falcons break the game open. Wilkins added a two-run double in the same inning as the Falcons scored five runs for a 9-1 lead.
Todd and Wilkins each knocked in three runs in the first game, and Delly added two RBIs in addition to scoring three runs. John Hailey went the distance in holding the Panthers to one run on 10 hits. The Falcons, who lead the CIAA at 6-0, amassed 15 hits.

Baytop was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Polanco was 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in the second game. They each hit RBI singles in a three-run fifth inning to help the Falcons pull away from a 5-5 tie.

The duo combined seven of the Falcons' 13 hits in the second game. Chris Rogers (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) picked up the pitching win as he, Desmond Cheek (Fr./Asheboro, N.C.) and Todd combined to hold the Panthers to five hits.

The Falcons return to conference play this weekend when they host Elizabeth City State in a CIAA doubleheader at USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C., on Saturday, March 16, 2013. The first pitch is at 1 p.m.
