The Saint Augustine's University-East Stroudsburg University baseball series set for this weekend (Feb. 15-16) has been moved one day to Sunday, February 16 and Monday, February 17 due to wet field conditions at Optimist Park in Raleigh, N.C. The teams will play a single nine-inning game on Sunday at 1 p.m. and two seven-inning games on Monday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
The Falcons (2-4 overall) are led by sophomore left fielder
Jason Baytop (Manchester, MD), senior second baseman
Calvin Butcher (New Castle, DE) and junior pitcher
Bryan Rivera (Cida, Puerto Rico). Baytop, last season's CIAA Rookie of the Year, leads the Falcons with a .474 batting average. He also has two doubles and two RBIs. Butcher bats .368 and leads the Falcons in hits (7) and home runs (1). He is tied for the team lead in RBIs (4).
Rivera was named Atlantic Region pitcher of the week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) after hurling a four-hit shutout in a 1-0 St. Aug win over Bluefield State College last Saturday, February 8. He leads the Falcons with 10 strikeouts.
East Stroudsburg opens its season in the three-game series. The Warriors are the defending PSAC champions and are picked third in their conference's East Division. They have reached the NCAA Division II Tournament two of the last three seasons.
