Falcons Fall To East Stroudsburg 6-2 in Baseball

Box Score CARY, N.C. – Junior center fielder Sterling James (New Castle, DE) and sophomore left fielder Jason Baytop (Manchester, MD) each drove in a run for Saint Augustine's University in a 6-2 baseball loss to East Stroudsburg University at USA Baseball National Training Complex on Sunday, February, 16, 2014.

Baytop smacked a triple down the left field line to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. He scored James, who reached base on a single. James was 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Falcons.

James scored freshman shortstop Corey Brassington (Raleigh, NC) on a single to centerfield in the bottom of the fifth inning. The single cut the Falcons' deficit to 3-2 after East Stroudsburg scored three runs in the fourth inning. Brassington reached base on a single and advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by senior second baseman Calvin Butcher (New Castle, DE). Brassington stole third base before James drove him home.

East Stroudsburg scored one run each in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings for the final score. The Falcons dropped to 2-5 overall while the contest was the season opener for East Stroudsburg.

Both teams play again Monday, February 17 in a doubleheader at USA Baseball National Training Complex. The first game starts at 1 p.m. and the second game begins at approximately 3 p.m. The three-game series was moved one day to Sunday and Monday due to wet field conditions at Optimist Park in Raleigh, N.C., caused by a winter storm during this past week.

The Falcons and Warriors played a single nine-inning game Sunday. They will play two seven-inning games on Monday.
