Box Score 2 CARY, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University split with West Liberty University in a baseball doubleheader at USA Baseball National Training Complex on Saturday, February 22, 2014. The Falcons won 5-4 in the first game in extra innings and lost 5-3 in the second game.
The Falcons rallied from a three-run deficit in the first game. Sophomore third baseman Corey Cheek (Baltimore, MD) scored the winning run in the eighth inning on a throwing error to home plate.

Corey Brassington (Raleigh, NC) each collected an RBI for the Falcons. Junior pitcher
Jeremy Sandifer (Virginia Beach, VA) earned the win after entering the game as a relief pitcher in the seventh inning with the score tied 4-4. He recorded two strikeouts and allowed one hit in two innings.
The Falcons led 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning when Thomas was walked with the bases loaded. The Hilltoppers moved in front 4-1 by the sixth inning before the Falcons rallied with three runs to tie the game in the same inning. Cheek scored senior center fielder
Jamie Scott (Hampton, VA), who singled earlier to reach base. Thomas scored when Brassington was walked with the bases loaded. Cheek tied the game when he scored on a passed ball. Cheek scored twice in the first contest.
The Hilltoppers scored three runs in the first inning of the second game. The Falcons responded with two runs in the second inning on an RBI triple by senior first baseman
Darien Hardaway (Atlanta, GA) which scored sophomore left fielder
Jason Baytop (Manchester, MD), who opened the inning with a double. Cheek scored Hardaway on a single.
Scott scored senior second baseman
Calvin Butcher (New Castle, DE) on a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the fifth inning. The Hilltoppers picked up two runs in the seventh inning for the win.
Hardaway went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple, a double and one run scored for the Falcons in the second game. Senior right fielder
Darren Burks also tripled. Scott and Cheek each added an RBI.
The Falcons are now 4-8 overall. The Hilltoppers are 1-1.
Both teams play a single nine-inning game at USA Baseball National Training Complex on Sunday, February 23. The contest starts at 1 p.m.
