Thomas Records Two RBIs for St. Aug In Loss To WSSU

Box Score MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – William Thomas (Soph./Yorktown, VA) collected two RBIs for Saint Augustine's University in an 8-3 CIAA baseball loss to Winston-Salem State University at Mando Field on Thursday, March 27, 2014.
 
Jamie Scott (Sr./Hampton, VA) drove in the other run for the Falcons. Scott went 2-for-3 at the plate to pace the Falcons, who had seven hits.
 
Thomas, who leads the Falcons with 19 RBIs, drove in Calvin Butcher (Sr./New Castle, DE) with a single for a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Butcher reached base on a single. The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the first and added five runs in the second inning to go ahead 6-1.
 
The Rams added two runs in the fourth inning to pad their lead to 8-1. The Falcons scored in the fifth inning when Darien Hardaway (Sr./Atlanta, GA) crossed the plate on an RBI by Scott. Hardaway reached base on a single.
 
The Falcons scored again in the sixth inning for the final margin. Clarence Peace (Sr./Creedmoor, NC) reached second on a double and later scored on an RBI by Thomas.
 
The Falcons dropped to 3-5 in the CIAA and 11-19 overall. The Rams upped their record to 9-3 in the CIAA and 22-11 overall. The contest was originally scheduled for March 16 as part of a doubleheader but was postponed to Thursday due to inclement weather.
 
The Falcons will embark on a four-game CIAA road trip this weekend against Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, and Sunday, March 30. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. both days.
