Thomas Perfect At Plate For Falcons In Game 1 Win Over Lincoln (Pa.)

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CARY, N.C. - Sophomore William Thomas (Yorktown, VA) was 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs as Saint Augustine's University upended Lincoln (Pa.) University 11-3 in the first game of a CIAA baseball doubleheader at USA Baseball National Training Complex on Saturday, March 8, 2014. The Falcons fell to Lincoln 7-1 in the second game.

Both teams will play another doubleheader at the same site on Sunday, March 9. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Senior Clarence Peace (Creedmoor, NC) added three RBIs and senior Calvin Butcher (New Castle, DE) was 2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored in the first game. Sophomore Carey Cheek (Baltimore, MD) was 2-for-4 with one RBI and freshman Corey Fields (Upper Marlboro, MD) knocked in one run for the Falcons, who pounded out 13 hits.

Junior Sean Brassington (Raleigh, NC) of the Falcons was the winning pitcher in the first game. Brassington allowed five hits and one run in six and one-third innings. He struck out seven batters and walked one.

The Falcons led 1-0 in the first inning when junior Sterling James (New Castle, DE) scored on a passed ball. In the third inning, Peace hit a two-run double to score James and Butcher, and Thomas smacked an RBI double to score Peace for a 4-0 lead.

Cheek hit an RBI double to score Butcher in the fourth inning. The Falcons exploded for six runs in the sixth inning for an 11-0 lead. Butcher scored on a sacrifice fly by Peace for the first run in the inning. Thomas blasted a three-run double to score senior Jamie Scott (Hampton, VA), sophomore Jason Baytop (Manchester, MD) and Cheek. Thomas scored on an RBI single by Fields, who later scored on an RBI double by Butcher.

In the second game, the Falcons stayed close despite Thomas getting the team's only hit. Scott scored on a sacrifice fly by Butcher to get the Falcons within 2-1 in the fifth inning, but Lincoln erupted for five runs in the seventh inning to take the win.
