Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CARY, N.C. – Bryan Rivera (Jr./Puerto Rico) hurled a four-hit shutout as Saint Augustine's University blanked Chowan University 7-0 in the second game of a CIAA baseball doubleheader at USA Baseball National Training Complex on Senior Day Saturday, April 5, 2014. Chowan rallied in the seventh inning to win the first game 7-4.

This was the second shutout this week for Rivera, who threw a five-hitter in seven complete innings in a 9-0 win over Virginia State University Monday, March 31. The Hawks were shut out for only the third time this season.

With the split, the Falcons remained in fourth place at 6-8 in the CIAA and 14-22 overall. The Hawks fell to second place by one game behind conference leader Winston-Salem State at 13-5 in the CIAA. Their overall record is 14-21.

The home team wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Clarence Peace (Sr./Creedmoor, NC), who was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, singled in the first inning to score Calvin Butcher (Sr./New Castle, DE), who was 3-for-4 with an RBI, two doubles and two runs scored. Hardaway hit an RBI lineout to score Baytop in the fifth inning. William Thomas (Soph./Yorktown, VA), who was 2-for-3, finished the scoring for the Falcons in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly which scored Darren Burks (Sr./Matteson, IL), who was also 2-for-3. All but one batter collected at least a hit in the win for the Falcons.

The Falcons nearly pulled out the first game after trailing 3-0 after three innings. Corey Fields (Fr./Upper Marlboro, MD) started a three-run fourth inning with a two-run single to score Thomas and Carey Cheek (Soph./Baltimore, MD). Butcher tied the game on an RBI bunt single which scored Hardaway.

The Falcons took the lead 4-3 in the fifth inning on a Cheek RBI single which scored Thomas. The lead held up until the top of the seventh inning when the Hawks scored four runs for the final margin.

Cheek was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Falcons. Jamie Scott (Jr./Hampton, VA) was 3-for-3 and Sterling James (Jr./New Castle, DE) was 2-for-4.
