Box Score 2 MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Jason Baytop (Jr./Manchester, MD) of Saint Augustine's University batted 3-for-6 for the second consecutive day, but the Falcons lost 6-5 in the first game and 8-2 in the second game to Pfeiffer University at Joe Ferebee Field on Sunday, February 15, 2015.
Baytop homered, drove in a run and scored a run for the Falcons, who dropped to 1-8 overall. His homer was one of three for the Falcons. Sterling James (Sr./New Castle, DE) and Timothy Carter (So./Lumberton, NC) each smacked a home run.
Baytop started the first contest with a lead-off homer to right field for a 1-0 Falcons' lead in the first inning Pfeiffer took a 3-1 lead with three runs in the second inning.
The Falcons pulled within 3-2 in the third inning. Roberto Rivera (Fr./Millville, NJ) scored James on an RBI fielder's choice.
Pfeiffer (7-5 overall) scored one run in the fourth for a 4-2 lead, but the Falcons rallied in the top of the seventh with three runs for a 5-4 lead. Christopher Ingram (Jr./Smithtown, NY) scored Alexis Garcia (So./Maracaibo, Venezuela) on a single, and James scored himself and Ingram on a two-run homer.
The Falcons needed three outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win, but Pfeiffer scored two runs to claim the victory.
Baytop was 2-of-4 with a home run, one run batted in and one run scored in the first game. James was 2-of-3 with a home run, double, one RBI and two runs scored. William Thomas (Jr./Yorktown, VA) was 1-of-3 with a double and Ingram was 1-of-1 with one RBI and one run scored.
In the second game, the Falcons fell behind 6-0 before scoring one run in the fourth inning. Darrell Langston (Fr./Chicago, IL) cut the Pfeiffer lead to 6-1 when he scored on a throwing error.
Pfeiffer added a run in the bottom of the fourth. Carter hit a solo homer over the right field wall to pull the Falcons within 7-2. Pfeiffer scored in the bottom of the sixth for the final score.
The quintet of Baytop, Rivera, Carter, Langston and Corey Brassington (So./Raleigh, NC) each recorded a hit for the Falcons, who tallied five hits. Pfeiffer totaled 14 hits.
The Falcons will host Paine College in a doubleheader at Buffaloe Road Park in Raleigh, N.C., on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. The first game will start at 1 p.m. followed by the second game at approximately 3 p.m.
