Box Score PEMBROKE, N.C. – Shortstop Roberto Rivera (Fr./Millville, NJ) was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI for Saint Augustine's University in an 11-5 baseball loss to UNC Pembroke at Sammy Cox Field on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. The Falcons dropped to 0-2 overall with the loss. UNC Pembroke upped its record to 3-0.
Centerfielder Jason Baytop (Jr./Manchester, MD) was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and two runs scored for the Falcons, who tallied 14 hits. Leftfielder Darrell Langston (Fr./Chicago, IL) was 2-for-4 with a triple and one run scored while second baseman Timothy Carter (So./Lumberton, NC) and third baseman Carey Cheek (Jr./Baltimore, MD) each had two hits with Cheek recording a double. Carter and designated hitter Alexis Garcia (So./Maracaibo, Venezuela) each knocked in a run. For the second straight game, the Falcons led early against an opponent. The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Baytop and Rivera both scored on a fielding error. The Braves tied the game in the bottom of the first inning, then scored nine runs in the next seven innings to take an 11-2 lead into the ninth inning.
The Falcons scored three runs in the top of the ninth for the final margin. Rivera scored Langston on an RBI single and Carter scored Rivera on a single. Garcia scored Baytop on an RBI error.
Collins Cuthrell of the Braves had four RBIs on two two-run homers. The Braves finished with 12 hits.
The Falcons host Benedict College in their home opener on Thursday, February 5, at Buffaloe Road Park in Raleigh, N.C. The teams will play a doubleheader with the first game beginning at 1 p.m. and the second game starting at approximately 3 p.m.
