Pitchers Sandifer, Hathcock Stymie Bluefield State In Falcons' Baseball Sweep

CARY, N.C. – Pitchers Jeremy Sandifer (Sr./Virginia Beach, VA) and Philip Hathcock (Jr./Apex, NC) allowed only one run combined as Saint Augustine's University defeated Bluefield State College 5-1 in the first game and 1-0 in the second game of a non-conference baseball doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Saturday, March 21, 2015.
 
Both teams resume play in a doubleheader Sunday, March 22, at the same site. The first contest begins at 12 p.m. and the second game starts at approximately 2 p.m.
 
Sandifer hurled a one-hit shutout in seven complete innings in the second game for his first pitching win of the season. He struck out nine batters and walked two.
 
Timothy Carter (So./Lumberton, NC) drove in the game's only run in the second inning. He scored Christopher Ingram (Jr./Smithtown, NY) on a single to right field.
 
Hathcock, the CIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, fired a three-hitter in seven complete innings in the first game to up his pitching record to 2-2. He recorded six strikeouts and one walk.
 
Ingram was 2-for-3 at the plate in the first game with a double and one RBI for the Falcons. Sterling James (Sr./New Castle, DE) was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
 
The Falcons led 1-0 in the first inning of the first game when Alex Garcia (So./Maracaibo, Venezuela) scored James on a fielder's choice. They added a run in the third inning when K'shjuan Davis (Jr./Baltimore, MD) scored on an error.
 
Bluefield State scored one run in the top of the fifth inning, but the Falcons padded their lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. James scored Corey Brassington (So./Raleigh, NC) and Bryan Rivera (Cidra, Puerto Rico) with a single, and Ingram scored James with a double.
