Box Score 2 CARY, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University fell to nationally-ranked Winston-Salem State University 13-5 and 9-0 in a CIAA baseball doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Friday, April 17, 2015.
Roberto Rivera (Fr./Millville, NJ) knocked in three runs for the Falcons in the first game. His three-run RBI double scored Alexis Garcia (Maracaibo, Venezuela), William Thomas (Jr./Yorktown, Va) and Corey Brassington (So./Raleigh, NC) in a five-run fourth inning which cut the Rams' lead to 8-5. The Rams pulled away with four runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh inning for the final score. The Rams led 8-0 through three innings before the Falcons cut the margin in the fourth inning. Thomas scored Jason Baytop (Jr./Manchester, MD) on a single, and Brassington scored Carey Cheek (Jr./Baltimore, MD) on a single before Rivera hit his three-run double. In the second game, Baytop went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Falcons, who fell to 4-6 in the CIAA and 14-22 overall. The Rams, who are the four-time defending CIAA champions, improved to 9-1 and 29-12 overall. They are ranked 29th nationally in the Collegiate Baseball Division II rankings.
Both teams will play another doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Saturday, April 18. Game times are 1 p.m. and approximately 3 p.m.
