CARY, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University will host Chowan University in a CIAA baseball doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Friday, April 3, 2015. The first game begins at 1 p.m. followed by the second game at approximately 3 p.m. Admission is free.
The Falcons and Hawks split their first doubleheader on Sunday, March 29, at Optimist Park in Raleigh, N.C. The Hawks won 5-2 in the first game and the Falcons won 4-2 in the second contest.
Both teams are tied for second in the CIAA standings. The Falcons are 1-1 and the Hawks are 5-5 in the conference. Winston-Salem State University is the league leader at 7-1.
The Falcons (11-16 overall) are coming off a 6-2 loss to 20th-ranked University of Mount Olive on Wednesday, April 1, in Cary, N.C. Three SAU pitchers combined for no earned runs, but the Falcons committed seven errors.
Jason Baytop (Jr./Manchester, MD) paces the Falcons with a .382 batting average. He ranks fourth in the CIAA in that category. Baytop also ranks second in the conference with 15 stolen bases.
Jeremy Sandifer (Sr./Virginia Beach, VA) of the Falcons leads the CIAA with 50 strikeouts and
Bryan Rivera (Sr./Cidra, Puerto Rico) is third with 42 strikeouts.
Desmond Cheek (So./Franklinton, NC) ranks third in the CIAA with a 2.36 earned run average.
Aaron Flanagan of the Hawks (14-14 overall) is the CIAA batting leader with a .458 average. Tyler Burden ranks second in the conference with a .424 batting average. Burden tops the CIAA with seven home runs and Flanagan is second with six home runs. Tanner Woods of the Hawks is tied for third in the league with four home runs.
Evan Hart is the ace pitcher for the Hawks. He ranks fourth in the CIAA with 40 strikeouts and fifth in the league with a 2.50 earned run average.
