Falcons Open Baseball Season With Losses To Benedict

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Carey Cheek (Sr./Baltimore, MD) and Timothy Carter (Jr./Lumberton, NC) each recorded an RBI for Saint Augustine's University, which opened the baseball season with doubleheader losses to Benedict College at Tiger Field on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016. The scores were 8-2 in the first game and 3-1 in the second game.

In the first game, Carter's RBI single tied the score at 1-1 in the second inning, but Benedict scored seven unanswered runs for an 8-1 lead by the top of the seventh inning. The Falcons added another run on a catcher's error which scored William Thomas (Sr./Yorktown, VA), but got no closer.

In the second game, Cheek's RBI sacrifice fly scored Darrell Langston (Soph./Chicago, IL) for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Benedict (2-1 overall) tied the score in the bottom of the first and added two runs in the fifth for the final margin. Langston went 3-for-3 with a double and one run scored in the contest.

Both teams meet again on Monday, Feb. 8, at Lions Park in Raleigh, N.C. The starting times are 1 p.m. and approximately 3 p.m.
