Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. – After sweeping Bluefield State College the previous day, Saint Augustine's University lost 10-5 in the first game and 4-0 in the second game of a baseball doubleheader between both teams at Lions Park on Saturday, March 19, 2016.
The Falcons and Bluefield State split their four-game weekend series 2-2. They face each other in another doubleheader - this time in Bluefield, W.Va. – on Monday, March 28. Game times are 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
In the first game, the Falcons nearly rallied after trailing 9-1. Hector Pichardo (Fr./Dominican Republic) started a four-run sixth inning with an RBI double which scored Ricky Martin (Sr./Raleigh, NC).
Joshua Bumgardner (So./Durham, NC) scored Pichardo on an RBI single and Johnathan Sierra (So./Raleigh, NC) scored Tyquan Bryant (Fr./Henderson, NC) on an RBI double. Sierra scored on an infield error to pull the Falcons within 9-5. Bluefield State added a run in the seventh inning for the final score.
Pichardo was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, one RBI and one run scored for the Falcons. Sierra was 2-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored. For Bluefield State, Chaz Rutherford was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Boston New was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Bluefield State had 10 hits and the Falcons finished with nine hits.
The second game was close until the fifth inning when Bluefield State (6-16 overall) scored three runs for a 4-0 lead. Martin led the Falcons (7-22 overall) with two hits on three at-bats and Cody Underwood sparked Bluefield State with an RBI and two runs scored. Both teams tallied five hits apiece.
