Falcons Visit Chowan For Four-Game Weekend Baseball Series (April 2-3)

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Saint Augustine's University will visit Chowan University in a key CIAA baseball four-game series at Hawkins Field on Saturday, April 2, and Sunday, April 3, 2016. The starting times for both doubleheaders are 1 p.m. and approximately 3 p.m.

The Falcons will attempt to stay atop the CIAA standings this weekend. They enter the series with a 3-1 conference mark while Chowan is second at 4-3.

 

Leading the Falcons on offense is Carey Cheek (Sr./Baltimore, MD), who ranks fifth in the conference in batting average (.327) and second in stolen bases (10). Tyquan Bryant (Fr./Henderson, NC) is tied for third in stolen bases (9) and Johnathan Sierra (So./Raleigh, NC) is fifth in stolen bases (8).

 

The trio of Corey Brassington (Jr./Raleigh, NC), Sean Brassington (Sr./Raleigh, NC) and Marquis Johnson (So./Richmond, VA) rank among the top five CIAA pitchers in earned run average. Corey Brassington is third with a 3.25 ERA, Sean Brassington, the CIAA Pitcher of the Week, is fourth with a 3.48 ERA and Johnson is fifth with a 3.83 ERA. Johnson also is third in the conference in strikeouts (34) and Tim Carter (Jr./Lumberton, NC) is fifth (29) for the Falcons (8-23 overall), who lead the conference in earned run average (3.88).

 

Chowan (10-17 overall) is fueled by the hitting of Zach Cooper and Tanner Woods. Cooper ranks third in the CIAA in batting average (.337) and Woods is fourth (.330) for the Hawks, who lead the conference in batting average (.290). Both players are tied for third in runs batted in (18) and Woods is the CIAA co-leader in home runs (4). Cody Smith ranks fourth in the league in strikeouts (30).
