Thomas Hits Two RBIs In Losses To Winston-Salem State

ASHEBORO, N.C. – William Thomas (Sr./Yorktown, VA) drove in two runs for Saint Augustine's University, which lost 7-3 and 14-0 to Winston-Salem State University in a CIAA baseball doubleheader at McCrary Park on Sunday, April 17, 2016. The twinbill concluded the regular season for the Falcons.

The Falcons will enter the CIAA Championship Tournament next week as the No. 3 seed. They will face either Winston-Salem State or Chowan University in the first round. The CIAA Championship will be held at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., on April 28-30.

Thomas recorded two RBIs in the first game to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead in the third inning. His two-run single scored Tyquan Bryant (Fr./Henderson, NC) and Carey Cheek (Sr./Baltimore, MD). Cheek had tied the score 1-1 in the third with an RBI double which scored Hector Pichardo (Fr./Dominican Republic). The Rams scored two runs in the third and four runs in the fourth for the victory.

Ricky Martin (Sr./Raleigh, NC) was 2-for-3 for the Falcons, who had seven hits. Timothy Carter (Jr./Lumberton, NC) and Pichardo, in addition to Cheek, doubled in the contest. Ivan Acuna had two RBIs for the Rams, who had eight hits.

In the second game, Thomas, Carter and Pichardo each collected a hit for the Falcons (7-9 CIAA, 12-31 overall). Nate Steger and Michael McNamara each finished with three RBIs for the Rams (9-3 CIAA, 23-18 overall), who scored nine runs in the second inning and five runs in the fifth inning.
