Box Score
MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Ricky Martin (Sr./Raleigh, NC) sparked a late rally to give Saint Augustine's University the lead but the Falcons lost 9-8 to Chowan University on a walk-off home run in a CIAA baseball contest at Hawkins Field on Saturday, April 2, 2016.

The second game was moved to Sunday, April 3, and will be part of a doubleheader which begins at 1 p.m. The fourth game of the series will be played Monday, April 4, at 2:30 p.m.

The loss dropped the Falcons (3-2 CIAA, 8-24 overall) to second place in the CIAA standings behind the Hawks (5-3 CIAA, 11-17 overall). But the Falcons, who entered the day leading the conference, have a chance to move back into first place with three games left against the Hawks.

The Falcons came back from a 6-0 deficit in the fourth inning to pull ahead twice by one run, the last time at 8-7 heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Hawks escaped with the victory on a two-run homer by Aaron Flanagan.

The Falcons, especially Martin, gave an outstanding effort despite the loss. His RBI single in the fifth inning tied the game at 6-6 and his one-run single in the seventh put the Falcons ahead for the second time at 8-7.

Martin finished 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and one run scored. He led a hitting onslaught for the Falcons, who cranked out 11 hits after their bats came alive midway in the contest. Timothy Carter (Jr./Lumberton, NC) was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and Darrell Langston (So./Chicago, IL) was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. William Thomas (Sr./Yorktown, VA) was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored and Carey Cheek (Sr./Baltimore, MD) was 2-for-3 with one run scored.

It was Martin who got the Falcons on the scoreboard. Behind 6-0 in the fourth inning, Martin drove in Thomas and Langston with a two-run single to slice the margin to four runs. Carter followed with his two-run homer which scored Martin.

The Falcons tied the game 6-6 in the fifth inning. Cheek scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Langston and Thomas scored on Martin's single. The visitors grabbed their first lead in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Mikal Batts (Jr./Kinston, NC) which scored Corey Brassington (Jr./Raleigh, NC).

The Hawks tied the game 7-7 in the sixth inning on an infield error, but the Falcons reclaimed the lead on Martin's RBI single which scored Thomas. The Hawks prevailed, however, on Flanagan's homer.

Flanagan, Wade Wyatt and Josh Martin each knocked in two runs for the Hawks, who tallied 14 hits. But after scoring six runs in the first two innings, the Hawks were held scoreless until the sixth. Meanwhile, the Falcons scored in every inning after going scoreless the first three innings.
