RALEIGH, NC (Jan 31) – On Wednesday, Feb. 1, Saint Augustine's University will make its season debut against Barton College in a baseball doubleheader at Nixon Field in Wilson N.C. The first game starts at 1 p.m. followed by the second game at 4 p.m.

The Falcons return eight lettermen and three players who redshirted last season including standout pitcher Marquis Johnson (Jr./Richmond, VA). Last season, the Falcons hurler tied for third in the conference in wins (5) and tied for third in strikeouts (56) in addition to leading the CIAA in complete games (7) and ranking fourth in earned run average (4.09). An All-CIAA Tournament selection last season, Johnson was named to the Black College Nines Elite Preseason HBCU Baseball Team last week. He heads a deep pitching rotation which features 10 pitchers.
The top returning hitters are Johnathan Sierra (Sr./Raleigh, NC), Alexis Garcia (Sr./ Maracaibo, Venezuela), Hector Pichardo (Dominican Republic), Corey Brassington (Sr./Raleigh, NC) and Timothy Carter (Sr./Lumberton, NC). Pichardo was named to the All-CIAA Rookie Team last season as a utility player.
Sierra, an infielder, and outfielders Tyquan Bryant (So./Henderson, NC) and Charles Lyons (So./Rockingham, NC) are solid defensively. Bryant is also one of the top returning base stealers in the conference with 17 stolen bases last season which tied for third in the CIAA.
After facing Barton, the Falcons will open at home this weekend against the University of Virginia's College at Wise. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4 and Sunday, Feb. 5 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
