Timothy Carter Tallies Eight RBIs For The Falcons

RALEIGH, NC (Feb 11) – On Saturday, Timothy Carter (Sr./Lumberton, NC) amassed eight RBIs as Saint Augustine's University swept Claflin University 13-1 in the first game and 13-4 in the second game of a baseball doubleheader at Historic Mirmow Field in Orangeburg, S.C.

Both teams head to Cary, N.C. for another doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 12. The first game begins at 1 p.m. and the second game starts at approximately 3:30 p.m. at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. Admission is free to both games.

Carter tallied seven RBIs on 3-for-3 hitting in the first game including a three-run homer. He also smacked a two-run double and a two-RBI single in the contest.

Johnathan Sierra (So./Raleigh, NC) and Ruben Pinero (R-Jr./Bronx, NY) each added two RBIs for the Falcons. Sierra was 2-for-4 and Pinero was 3-for-4 at the plate. Alexis Garcia (Sr./Maracaibo, Venezuela) and Hector Pichardo (So./Dominican Republic) each knocked in a run for the Falcons, who had 13 hits. Corey Brassington (Sr./Raleigh, NC) scored three runs and Sierra and Alexis Garcia each scored two runs.

Rickey Rice (R-Sr./Union, SC) scattered seven hits in six innings to pick up the win. He struck out four and walked no batters.

Sierra started the scoring in the first game with an RBI single in the first inning which scored Brassington. Carter added a two-run double which scored Alexis Garcia and Sierra for a 3-0 lead. In the second inning, Kilvio Garcia (So./Bronx, NY) scored on a bases-loaded walk to Sierra and Michael Keels (R-Sr./Manning, SC) scored on Alexis Garcia's sacrifice fly before Carter scored Sierra, Brassington and himself on his three-run homer for an 8-0 lead.

The lead stretched to 10-0 in the fourth inning when Carter scored Alexis Garcia and Brassington on his two-run single. Pichardo doubled in Charles Lyons (So./Rockingham, NC) and Pinero drove in Carson Davis (So./Oakboro, NC) and Pichardo for a 13-0 lead in the sixth inning. The Panthers finally scored in the bottom of the sixth for the final score.

In the second game, Garcia drove in three runs on 2-for-4 hitting and Pichardo had two RBIs on 2-for-3 batting. Sierra totaled two RBIs and Keels scored three runs. The trio of Brassington, Sierra and Carter scored two runs apiece. Keels was 4-for-4 at the plate for the Falcons, who finished with 12 hits.

Ali Nunn (Fr./Raleigh, NC) was the winning pitcher for the Falcons (3-5 overall). He allowed four hits and two earned runs in addition to striking out six and walking none in 5.1 innings.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Keels scored on an RBI groundout by Sierra and Brassington scored on an RBI single by Alexis Garcia. The lead extended to 4-0 in the third inning on Carter's single which scored Sierra and Davis' RBI groundout which scored Carter.

The Falcons scored five runs in the fourth to open a 9-0 lead. Keels scored on Sierra's single and Pichardo drove in Brassington and Alexis Garcia on a two-run single. Carter scored on a wild pitch and Pichardo scored on an outfield error.

Alexis Garcia hit a two-run double which scored Keels and Sierra in the fifth inning. After Claflin scored in the fifth, Davis scored on a wild pitch and Pinero scored on Keels' single in the sixth for a 13-1 lead. The Panthers (0-6 overall) scored one run in the sixth and added two runs in the seventh for the final score.
