Johnathan Sierra Was Top Hitter For Falcons

CARY, NC (Feb 5) – On Saturday, Feb. 4, Johnathan Sierra (So./Raleigh, NC) collected two hits for Saint Augustine's University as the Falcons lost 9-2 and 4-0 to the University of Virginia's College at Wise in a baseball doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

One of Sierra's hits broke up a no-hit bid in the second game. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Sierra looped a single to shallow right field. It was the only hit for the Falcons in the contest.

The second game was a pitchers' duel between the Falcons and Cavaliers. For the Falcons, Marquis Johnson (Jr./Richmond, VA) allowed two hits and one earned run in five innings and Jeffery Guzman (Jr./Raleigh, NC) gave up no hits in two innings.

In the first game, the Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Michael Keels (R-Sr./Manning, SC) recorded an RBI groundout which scored Kilvio Garcia (So./Bronx, NY) and Corey Brassington (Sr./Raleigh, NC) scored on a wild pitch.

The Cavaliers (2-0 overall) scored six runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. They padded their lead with three runs in the sixth.

Four Falcons (0-4 overall) had a hit in the first game. They were Carson Davis (So./Oakboro, NC), Ruben Pinero (R-Jr./Bronx, NY), Garcia and Sierra.

Both teams play another doubleheader Sunday, Feb. 5 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The first game begins at 12:30 p.m. with the second game starting at approximately 3 p.m.
