Michael Keels And Carson Davis Provide Offensive Highlights For Falcons
CARY, NC (March 26) – On Sunday, Michael Keels (R-Sr./Manning, SC) and Carson Davis (So./Oakboro, NC) were the top hitters for Saint Augustine's University as the Falcons lost 10-4 in the first game and 9-5 in the second game to Bluefield State College at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The losses, coupled with Saturday's victories, evened the four-game weekend series at 2-2.
Keels was 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the first game. Corey Brassington (So./Raleigh, NC) was 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored and Collin Pippin (Fr./Garner, NC) was 2-for-3 with one run scored. Ruben Pinero (R-Jr./Bronx, NY) scored two runs for the Falcons (14-19 overall), who had nine hits.
Davis batted 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBIs and one run scored in the second game. Keels was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for the Falcons, who totaled eight hits.
In the first game, the Falcons fell behind early as the Big Blues (8-13 overall) opened a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning. The Falcons scored in the second when Keels drove in Pippin on a single but the Big Blues tacked on two runs in the third for a 6-1 lead.
The Falcons added a run in the fourth when Keels scored Pinero on an RBI single but the Big Blues scored two more runs in the fifth for an 8-2 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Tim Carter (Sr./Lumberton, NC) scored Brassington on an RBI single to cut their deficit to 8-3.
But the Big Blues would score two runs in the sixth for a 10-3 lead. The Falcons picked up their final run in the sixth when Brassington scored Pinero on a sacrifice fly.
Chase Chambers was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Big Blues in the first game. Chaz Rutherford scored three runs for the Big Blues, who had 12 hits.
In the second game, the Big Blues took a 2-0 lead but the Falcons tied the score in the third when Alton Brown (Fr./Durham, NC) scored Keels on an RBI single and Pinero scored Brassington on an RBI fielder's choice.
The Big Blues built a 9-2 lead with three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth. The Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run homer by Davis which scored Tre'Vohn Jeffery (Fr./Raleigh, NC) and himself. Hector Pichardo (So./Dominican Republic) added the Falcons final run in the seventh when he scored Keels on an RBI groundout.
Kevon Moxey led the Big Blues with four RBIs and three runs scored in the second game. Sam Harris finished with two runs scored for the Big Blues, who recorded seven hits.
The Falcons return to conference action this weekend when they host defending CIAA champion Chowan University in a four-game series at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 and another doubleheader on Sunday, April 2 starting at 1 p.m. both days.
