Falcons Face Defending Conference Champs At USA Baseball National Training Complex

RALEIGH, NC (March 31) – On Sunday, April 2 and Monday April 3, Saint Augustine's University (SAU) will host defending CIAA champion Chowan University in a four-game baseball series at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Admission is free as both teams will play a doubleheader each day starting at 1 p.m.

The Falcons (3-1 CIAA, 14-19 overall), currently second in the conference standings, are led by the hitting and running of Michael Keels (R-Sr./Manning, SC) and the pitching of Rickey Rice (R-Sr./Union, SC).  Keels ranks second nationally in Division II in stolen bases (26) and fourth in the CIAA in batting average (.363). Rice leads the league in strikeouts (61), is tied for first in victories (4) and ranks fourth in earned run average (4.04).

SAU boasts a strong supporting cast. Tim Carter (Sr./Lumberton, NC) is third in the CIAA in runs batted in (26) and tied for third in home runs (5). Corey Brassington (Sr./Raleigh, NC) is the Division II national leader in walks (39), leads the CIAA in runs scored (32) and ranks third in stolen bases (19). Marquis Johnson (Jr./Richmond, VA) is tied for fourth in strikeouts (36) and Chris Ingram (Sr./Smithtown, NY) leads the conference in saves (3).

The Hawks (3-3 CIAA, 12-19 overall), third in the CIAA standings, are paced by Trent Brosdahl and Marquis Lanier offensively. Brosdahl is tied for the league lead in home runs (6) and ranks second in RBIs (28). Lanier ranks second in the CIAA in batting average (.423).
