RALEIGH, NC (April 21) – Saint Augustine's University will host Winston-Salem State University in its final CIAA baseball series of the season on Senior Weekend at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, April 22 and a twinbill is set for Sunday, April 23 beginning at 1 p.m. both days. Admission is free and open to the public.
Six Falcon seniors will be honored between the first and second game on Saturday. The seniors are Corey Brassington (Raleigh, NC), Tim Carter (Lumberton, NC), Alexis Garcia (Maracaibo, Venezuela), Chris Ingram (Smithtown, NY), Michael Keels (Manning, SC) and Rickey Rice (Union, SC).
The Falcons (5-6 CIAA, 18-27 overall) are third in the conference standings entering the four-game series. They are led by the foursome of Keels, Brassington, Carter and Rice. Keels, who is the Falcons top hitter (.352 batting average), ranks second in the CIAA and fourth nationally in Division II in stolen bases (28). He also ranks sixth in Division II in toughest to strike out.
Brassington ranks first in Division II in walks (44) and sixth in walks per game. He also ranks first in the CIAA in on base percentage (.503) and third in stolen bases (22). Carter ranks fourth in the CIAA in RBIs (35) and is tied for third in home runs (7). Ingram is the CIAA leader in saves (3).
Rice leads the CIAA in strikeouts (84) and ranks second in earned run average (3.09). He ranks 11th in Division II in strikeouts.
The Rams (10-0 CIAA, 27-14 overall) are paced by Randy Norris, Ivan Acuna and Seth Reeves. Norris ranks second (.389) and Acuna ranks third (.382) in the CIAA, respectively, in batting average. Acuna also leads the CIAA in home runs (10) and RBIs (44). Reeves leads the CIAA in earned run average (1.82) and is tied for first in wins (7).
