Box Score 2 Both Teams Play Again Sunday At USA Baseball National Training Complex
RALEIGH, NC (April 23) – On Saturday, April 22, Saint Augustine's University fell 6-2 in the first game and 5-0 in the second game of a CIAA baseball doubleheader against Winston-Salem State University at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
In the first game, the Falcons trailed 4-0 in the third inning but cut the deficit to two in the same inning when Timothy Carter (Sr./Lumberton, NC) scored Amilcar Yanez (So./Venezuela) and Corey Brassington (Sr./Raleigh, NC) on a two-run double to right field. The Rams scored the final two runs in the seventh inning.
Carter was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Falcons, who had six hits. CIAA strikeout leader Rickey Rice (R-Sr./Union, SC) was marvelous in defeat as he fired a four-hitter in seven innings. Rice struck out 10 batters, walked three and allowed one earned runs. He now has a league-leading 94 strikeouts this season. Randal Ortiz paced the Rams with three RBIs.
In the second game, the Rams scored four runs in the third inning and one run in the sixth inning for the final score. Alexis Garcia (Sr./Maracaibo, Venezuela) was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Falcons, who totaled six hits. Ivan Acuna drove in two runs for the Rams, who had six hits.
The Falcons remain third in the CIAA standings at 5-8. They are 18-29 overall this season.
The Rams lead the CIAA at 12-0 and their overall record is 29-14. Both teams play another doubleheader Sunday, April 23 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex starting at 1 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited.
