Corey Brassington Tallies Three Hits Against The Rams
RALEIGH, N.C. (April 28) – On Friday, Corey Brassington (Sr./Raleigh, NC) totaled three hits for Saint Augustine's University as the Falcons dropped both games of a CIAA baseball doubleheader against Winston-Salem State University at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. The score was 7-0 in the first game and 3-1 in the second game.
Brassington collected the Falcons' only hit in the first game, a double to right center field in the first inning. The Falcons trailed 1-0 heading into the fifth but the Rams scored six runs in the top of the inning to take a commanding lead.
Brassington had two hits in the second game including an RBI triple to right center field in the seventh inning. His hit scored Chris Zavala (So./Fayetteville, NC) to cut the Falcons deficit to 3-1 but the Rams held on for the win.
Chris Ingram (Sr./Smithtown, NY) pitched a masterful game despite the loss. He allowed three hits and one earned run in six innings. The Falcons totaled six hits in the second contest.
The Rams (14-2 CIAA, 31-16 overall) finished the regular season atop the CIAA standings. The Falcons, in fourth place, conclude their regular season Monday, May 1 when they complete their suspended contest against Chowan University at Lions Park in Raleigh, N.C. starting at 1 p.m.
After the Chowan game, the Falcons (5-10 CIAA, 18-31 overall) will head to Ettrick, Va. for the CIAA Baseball Championship Tournament on May 4-6. The site is Whaley Colbert Field on the Virginia State University campus.
