Box Score Home Run Helps Falcons Charge Back From Early Deficit
RALEIGH, NC (April 5) – On Tuesday night, April 4, Timothy Carter (Sr./Lumberton, NC) smacked a home run for Saint Augustine's University in a 9-5 baseball loss to Francis Marion University at Cormell Field in Florence, S.C.
His two-run shot over the right field wall pulled the Falcons within 5-4 in the top seventh after trailing 4-0 in the first inning. The Patriots stretched their lead to 9-4 with one run in the seventh and three runs in the eighth. Kilvio Garcia (So./Bronx, NY) scored the final run for the Falcons on an infield error in the ninth.
The Falcons trailed 4-0 after the first inning but chipped away at the deficit. Johnathan Sierra (Sr./Raleigh, NC) scored Corey Brassington (Sr./Raleigh, NC) on an RBI single in the fourth and Garcia scored on an outfield error in the fifth.
After the Patriots scored one run in the fifth, the Falcons scored two runs in the seventh on Carter's home run, his sixth of the season. He scored himself and Collin Pippin (Fr./Garner, NC) on the homer.
Carter was 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and one run scored off his homer. Pippin was 1-for-1 with a triple and one run scored and Brassington was 1-for-2 with one run scored. Garcia scored two runs and Ruben Pinero (R-Jr./Bronx, NY) was 2-for-4 for the Falcons, who totaled eight hits.
Zach Callahan was 3-for-5 with three RBIs for the Patriots (26-11 overall), who had 12 hits. Logan Koch and William Robbins both drove in two runs.
The Falcons (14-23 overall) travel to Ettrick Va. this weekend to visit Virginia State University in a CIAA four-game series at Whaley Colbert Field. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, April 8 and Sunday, April 9 at 1 p.m. and approximately 3:30 p.m. both days.
