First-Round Contest Starts At 3 P.M. On Virginia State University Campus

RALEIGH, NC (May 2) – On Thursday, May 4, Saint Augustine's University will face Winston-Salem State University in the first round of the CIAA Baseball Championship Tournament at Whaley Colbert Field on the Virginia State University campus in Ettrick, Va. Game time is 3 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament.

The Falcons (18-32 overall) are seeded fourth after posting a 5-11 conference record. The Rams (31-16 overall) are seeded first after winning the regular-season title at 14-2.

The contest is expected to be competitive based on recent first-round history between both teams. In 2015, the fourth-seeded Falcons led 4-2 in the eighth inning before falling 5-4 to the top-seeded Rams. In 2014, the fourth-seeded Falcons led four times in the 15-inning contest before succumbing 6-5.

Thursday's game will follow the opening contest between No. 2 seed Chowan University and No. 3 seed Virginia State University which starts at 12 p.m. The victors of both games will square off in the winner's bracket Friday, May 5 at 1 p.m. The two first-round losers will play in the elimination bracket Thursday, May 4 at 6 p.m.
