RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 27) – Angela Caraballo (Jr./Richmond, VA) scored a season-high 21 points and Jordyn Burton (Fr./Durham, NC) added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Saint Augustine's University (SAU) in a 73-58 non-conference women's basketball loss to Virginia State University at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday.
Caraballo made 3 of 4 three-pointers and added five rebounds and three steals. She nearly tied her career-high of 22 points set last season.
Burton led a Lady Falcon bench that outscored the Trojans 23-6. Kiana Clark (Jr./Queens, NY) scored eight points in a reserve role.
Caraballo scored six points during a 10-0 SAU run to start the second half that erased a 35-32 halftime deficit. Her steal and layup gave the Lady Falcons a 42-35 lead with 7:46 left in the third period.
The Lady Falcons (1-4 overall) trailed 52-51 after three periods, but the Trojans (5-2 overall) outscored the hosts 21-7 in the fourth period to get the win.
Chrisanna Green scored 22 points for the Trojans, ranked eighth in the D2SIDA Atlantic Region Poll. Taylor Hayes added 16 points and Yazmen Hannah registered 15 points.
Both teams meet again in a CIAA game on Dec. 13 in Ettrick, Va. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
The next game for the Lady Falcons is Dec. 8 at home against Claflin University. Game time is 2 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium.
