RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 13) – Angela Caraballo (Jr./Richmond, VA) scored 18 points as Saint Augustine's University mounted a furious fourth-period rally in a 61-54 women's basketball loss to Virginia State University at the VSU Multipurpose Center in Ettrick, Va., on Thursday.
Trailing by 29 points entering the final period, the Lady Falcons outscored the Trojans 28-6 to whittle the deficit to the final margin. They scored 14 straight points during the rally to get within 59-51 with 53 seconds left on a three-pointer by Kiana Clark (Jr./Queens, NY). The Trojans made two free throws with 29 seconds left and Clark added another trey with 10 seconds remaining for the final score.
Kamya Renwicks (Jr./Baltimore, MD) added 12 points for the Lady Falcons, who connected on 7 of 9 three-pointers for 77.7 percent in the fourth period. The Lady Falcons limited the Trojans to 1 of 10 shooting for 10 percent and forced eight turnovers in the final stanza.
Yazmen Hannah scored 12 points for the Trojans (1-0 CIAA, 6-2 overall), who led 55-26 at the end of the third period. Chrisanna Green had 11 points and 13 rebounds and Aja Robertson scored 11 points.
The Lady Falcons (1-2 CIAA, 2-5 overall) return to the court on Saturday, Dec. 15, against Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, N.C. Game time is 2 p.m.
