SAU Baseball Hosts Benedict In Doubleheader Sunday (Feb. 18)

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 17) – Red-hot Saint Augustine's University faces Benedict College in a baseball doubleheader Sunday, Feb. 18, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., starting at 1 p.m.

Both teams play another doubleheader Monday, Feb. 19, at Tiger Field in Columbia, S.C., with the first game beginning at 1 p.m. The four-game series was originally set for Saturday and Sunday but the games were re-scheduled due to expected inclement weather on Saturday.


The Falcons are off to their best five-game start in recent memory at 4-1 overall. Hector Pichardo (Jr./Dominican Republic) leads the team offensively with a .600 batting average, three RBIs and five runs scored. Carson Davis (Jr./Oakboro, NC) is batting .429 with six RBIs and three runs scored.

Marquis Johnson (Sr./Richmond, VA) has been dominant on the mound. He is 2-0 with zero runs allowed in 10 innings in addition to 12 strikeouts and four walks. Amilcar Yanez (Jr./Valencia, Venezuela) has a 2.70 earned run average and 11 strikeouts in 10 innings.

Benedict enters the series with a 0-1 record. The trio of Andrew McCoy, Javier Santiago and Christopher Harper are each batting .500 for the Tigers.
