CARY, N.C. (Feb. 22) – Saint Augustine's University dropped both games to West Liberty University in a baseball doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Complex on Thursday. The scores were 6-2 in game one and 9-5 in game two.

The offensive leaders for the Falcons (6-5 overall) were Carson Davis (Jr./Oakboro, NC), Nick Roets (Fr./Charlotte, NC), Ruben Pinero (R-Sr./Bronx, NY) and Johnathan Sierra (Jr/Raleigh, NC). Davis was 4-for-8 with three doubles and two runs scored and Pinero was 3-for-6 with one RBI and two runs scored. Roets was 4-for-6 with one RBI and Sierra was 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs scored.

In the first game, the Falcons led 1-0 in the second inning when Deaunte Ford (Fr./Charlotte, NC) singled in Davis. West Liberty tied the score in the fourth inning and erupted for three runs in the fifth for a 4-1 lead.

West Liberty (2-0 overall) padded its margin with one run each in the sixth and seventh innings for a 6-1 lead. The Falcons scored their final run in the seventh when Pinero knocked in Sierra with an RBI single.

In the second game, the Falcons led 2-1 in the second inning on RBIs by Sierra and Kilvio Garcia (So./Bronx, NY). The Hilltoppers re-took the lead 3-2 in the fifth inning, but the Falcons tied the score in the fifth on an RBI single by Alton Brown (So./Durham, NC).

The Falcons moved ahead 5-3 in the sixth inning when Roets scored Pinero on a single and Davis crossed home plate on a wild pitch. The Falcons attempted to end the game in the top of the seventh, but a one-out throwing error ignited a six-run rally by the Hilltoppers which decided the outcome.

The Falcons return to the USA Baseball National Training Complex this weekend. They host Post University in a four-game series on Saturday, Feb. 24, and Sunday, Feb. 25, with the first game starting at 1 p.m. both days.
